Feng Shui (pronounced fung shway) is a Chinese practice that involves art and science. It has been around for thousands of years. The aim in feng shui is to live in harmony within the nature, and not to disturb the natural movement of the energy.
The concept of yin and yang, five elements and Chi are the most essential and fundamental components in Feng Shui.
The symbol of yin and yang is an ancient Chinese cosmology. The interaction between yin and yang create a life force or chi. Yin and yang are two opposing truth in the universe, and one does not exist without the other.
For instance, when we compare a black and white, black is yin and white is yang.
Or, when we compare a feminine and masculine, female is yin and male is yang.
That is why yin and yang are introduced as a complement source in the nature and humans life.
In addition to that, the five elements which is water, wood, fire, earth and metal plays a vital role in our surroundings. These elements are not actual elements, but sort of continuously changing energy. The constant changes between the seasons are a good example. Spring represent wood, while summer symbolizes fire, autumn stand for metal and finally winter signifies water. However earth is an exception and is represent in all season.
The elements are interacting in a productive cycle and destructive cycle. Therefore the interaction between these elements generates balance or imbalance.
